A Butterfly Valve is a type of flow control device, typically used to regulate a fluid flowing through a section of pipe. The valve is similar in operation to a ball valve. A flat circular plate is positioned in the center of the pipe. The plate has a rod through it connected to an actuator on the outside of the valve. Rotating the actuator turns the plate either parallel or perpendicular to the flow. Unlike a ball valve, the plate is always present within the flow, therefore a pressure drop is always induced in the flow regardless of valve position.

Specifications: As per INDIAN STANDARDS (IS), BRITISH STANDARDS (BS) and AMERICAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION (AWWA).

Size: 100 m.m. to 1800 m.m. Diameter

Material of Construction: Cast Iron, Cast Steel and Ductile Iron.

Operation: Manual, Electric Operated.

Standards: IS : 13095 / 91, As per AWWA C-504, As Per BS-5155

Faced and drilled to IS : 1538. On demand BS to TD/E, IS-6392 as per DIN, ANSI B.16.5 possible, Resilient Seal material (Nitrile, EPDM, Silicon, Viton Rubber).

The temperature range of tight shutt off valves is 200C to 1200C. Temperatures upto 1600C are possible but the details of process fluid have to be considered before selecting the resilient Seal Material. Normally the maximum operating pressure is limited to 5-15 kg/cm2 for valves upto 600 mm dia and to 10 kg/cm2
For valves of higher sizes. The maximum working pressure is limited by maximum operating temperature. Butterfly valves are available in Wafer type, Flanged type short and long body.
